Are you ready to Luau?! It's our annual Spring Open Bouldering Competition next weekend!

Our Spring Open Bouldering Competition is next Saturday, and we are getting SO. DANG. PSYCHED. Last year was our first-ever Spring Open, and our first competition to feature a block party in the middle of it. This year we're making it bigger and better, and wanted to share with y'all some of the great activities we have planned, so y'all come out and join us! PLUS- it's LUAU-themed, so get ready for leis, tacky shirts, drink umbrellas, and oddly-placed coconuts!

Couples who climb together, stay together – couples who met at a Summit Gym

Couples who climb together, stay together – couples who met at a Summit Gym

It's Valentine's Day! Whether you care or not ... it's here! In honor of Valentine's Day, we rounded up some of the folks who met their significant other here at our gyms, and got their stories. It's really amazing the amount of relationships that have started at our gyms — we snagged a few of our happy couples to tell us how they met! So if you find yourself alone this Valentine's Day, don't fret — A. Because it is a totally arbitrary holiday! and B. because there might totally be someone for you at the gym right now!

To Hell and Back - How Summit Climbers Dalan and Tanner friggin' WON this year's 24HHH

And today in totally ridiculous and impressive feats, we are super proud to announce that Summit climbers Tanner Merkle and Dalan Faulkner took first place in Men's Elite at this year's 24 Hours of Horseshoe Hell competition, which took place this weekend at Horseshoe Canyon Ranch. If the name doesn't already give it away, it's a 24 hour climbing competition, where you have from 10 am on Friday morning til 10 am Saturday to climb as much. as. you. possibly. can. If you wanna do well, you can't sleep, but instead must become a climbing machine, programmed to crush, and crush only.

Some tips on strategery for the competition on Saturday!

We're getting closer to competition time on Saturday — how are you igniting your competitive spirit? Regardless of whether you win or lose (or even how you play the game), here are some tips to up your competition game, whether you've been competing forever, or this is your first time.

A Solution to your harness problems!

A Solution to your harness problems!

Maybe one of the must overlooked pieces of gear while climbing in the gym is the beloved rope - diaper ... aka harness, for the uninformed. In my time as the gym's Retail Manager I have noticed that we tend to buy 10 different pairs of shoes before we even think about maybe replacing our harness. So with that in mind, maybe we should put a little more thought into that piece of gear that saves your life every time you fail at climbing — or succeed and now need down.

Know Your Routesetter: Denis Firstov, setter for Summit Gyms

Know Your Routesetter: Denis Firstov, setter for Summit Gyms

We're steadily making our way through all the routesetters! This week we talked to Denis Firstov, another one of the tall guys on our routesetting team (and always with a pretty great  haircut!) Denis is a pretty busy guy, balancing full-time routesetting with coaching ClimbFit, being enlisted in the National Guard as well as traveling quite a bit in pursuit of adventure, but I snagged him for a few minutes for this post.

SBS season closer and Denton's first-ever comp — final scores and pictures

Thanks to everyone who came out last Friday night, for the last competition of our Summit Bouldering Series 2015 season! It was also the first comp we have ever held at our brand new Denton location, and I think it's safe to say we christened the place.

Meet your Manager: Adam Hughes, GM of Summit Denton

f you ever need advice on handstands ... then Adam Hughes is your man. Former assistant manager at Summit Dallas, this handstand master has recently taken over duties as the General Manager of Summit Denton, after its official opening this past Monday. If you don't understand what I mean by the handstands ... just spend some time at our new gym and you'll see Adam serenely bust out a few in his down time, when he isn't busy running Summit's first-ever built-from-scratch gym.

Denton location update: the walls are up, and here's a sneak peek. SHH!

We are getting ready to clip the chains on our new Denton location! Walltopia has done a more than amazing job getting the walls up, and they are looking sweet! They're super tall and super steep, with crazy angles galore for y'all to pump yourselves out on.

Witness the Fitness: a quick video of some hangboarding tips on our new hangboard station!

If you haven't been by our Carrollton location recently, we've added a really great training area upstairs! We got weights, bars, hangboards, and a bench — pretty much everything you'd need to get dat fitty (aka get fit!) To show you how to best utilize our brand new hangboard station, we made a quick little training video, on the basics / dos and don'ts of hangboards! Check it out, and add some hangboard training to your regimen!
