And that ends our 2018 season of the Summit Bouldering Series! WHOOO what a season! Thanks to everyone who came out and made this an epic one. Did everyone get a chance to try the problem with that dope spinning volume? My favorite part of the night was just watching people get dumped off of it! Keep an eye out for that volume at future comps - I have a feeling it will be hanging around a lot!
Are working on your futurist project, preferably somewhere faraway and hard to pronounce? Do you need to contort your body in impossible ways while flipping upside down to unlock the crux? Then do we have the yoga class for you! OndraYasa will show you how to visualize and achieve your project, all while screaming your feelings! Are you succeeding? Yell about it! Falling too much? YELL ABOUT IT! (Note* this class is a parody and does not actually exist.)
HOPE Y’ALL GOT SPOOKED DURING OUR HALLOWEEN COMP AT SUMMIT DALLAS! We had some sort of Haunted House going on in the Island, but I think it ended up being more of a chance for us to show off the crazy amount of fake spider webs we have. At the very least, the fog machine went a little nuts and visibility in there was SUPER LOW AKA SPOOKY.
Hey guys! Check out this cool promo vid for our upcoming SBS competition at Summit Dallas! It’s Oct 26th - so it’s a HALLOWEEN-EDITION comp! Come dressed as a ghost, a topically-relevant character from pop culture, or even … a ZOMBIE! Not signed up for the comp yet? Hurry - we have just a few spots left! Sign up here to be a part of the festivities! Rumor has a it there will even be a haunted house at the gym … but seriously, we’re making a haunted house and god knows what’s actually going to be in there. #chaos.
With the retirement and subsequent move-to-Colorado of Barbara (our former Yoga Director), we had to bring in some fresh blood to lead our yoga program! And that’s no easy feat - you gotta be patient with all the climber types that run Summit, so we had to find the right person for the job. And we definitely did! Meet our current Yoga DirectorJennie - she’s sweet, she’s kind, but she also doesn’t take no sh#$ from anyone. She teaches class here at Summit, as well as heads our incredible Yoga Teacher Training program! She’s great at teaching yoga, and also amazing at teaching how to teach yoga! If you have not had a chance to talk to Jennie yet, you should! Here’s a bit more on Jennie, so you know that talking about 80s music is always a safe bet with her … ALWAYS!
(Unless you’re talking crap on 80s music then GTFO)
Ittttttttt's that time again! Time for our annual Summit Bouldering Series! For the uninitiated - it is our annual bouldering competition series that happens every fall! We have a series of four competitions this year - here are the dates!
Sep. 21st @ Summit Carrollton - SIGN UP OPEN
Oct. 26th @ Summit Dallas
Nov. 16th @ Summit Denton
Dec. 14th @ Summit Fort Worth
Dang, what a weekend! This Saturday was our annual 12 Hours of Summit Suffering, our favorite event of the year to host! This one was definitely an incredible one - we had 250 COMPETITORS climb from 9 am to 9 pm at all FIVE Summit locations! They climbed, they took classes, they dressed up, they CONQUERED. Here is a brief recap from the event - click through our photo gallery to see our brave competitors / staff throughout the event!
Seems like there is a podcast for everything these days. Comedy podcasts, parenting podcasts, mystery podcasts - there's a little something for everyone. Including CLIMBERS! If, like most of us, you live, sleep, eat, breath, and SWEAT climbing, it's a no brainer that you should give a climbing podcast a shot. Some have training tips, some gossip about the latest in climbing, some interview prominent climbers. We here at Summit have compiled a list of some of our favorite podcasts - read up, and check them out if they sound like your thing! The glorious thing about podcasts is that most are FREE, so there's no risk to just giving one a try!
A familiar face at Summit Denton became the gym's General Manager in May! Say hello to Ross Nelson! A fixture at the Denton gym since it opened in 2015, Ross has taken the helm at our cool little gym near the downtown Denton square. A recent UNT grad, Ross knows the ins and outs of this college town (and can feel the pain of any students going through finals / weird roommate situations). Here's a bit more on Ross!
The 12 Hours of Summit Suffering competition is coming around the corner! (If you don't know what that is, click on the link! Trust us ... it's awesome.) Not only is this a super fun comp, but every competitor has a chance to win something awesome during the huge raffle that happens after the comp! This competition would be nothing without its sponsors, so we wanted to use this post to give all of them a shout-out, plus let y'all know some of the goodies you can look forward to maybe snagging! The after-party this year will be at Summit Grapevine and will include food, beer, awards and the raffle prizes! Of course, we aren’t competing for the goods, but this is a climber's DREAM raffle! The prizes include ski lift tickets, bottles, chalk, chalk bags, ropes, LOTS of gift cards, clothes, clinics, climbing shoes, snacks, crag packs, brushes, coupons, even yoga gear!
The reason why the parking lot at Summit Carrollton is currently a little bit technicolor! For the Carrollton member party, we tie-dyed tee shirts, raced on a surprisingly tall slip n slide, chucked water balloons only at people who were not trying to get wet, drank beer, ate Steel City popsicles and snacked on food truck crepes! Check out photos from the night — come find yourself if you were there, or get jealoussssss if you weren't! This was one of our member parties- so if you're not a member yet, this is the kind of stuff we do to show our members that we appreciate them!
Did you go to Prom? This year's Pro was definitely a night to remember! Congrats to our crowned Prom King and Queen - y'all looked lovely. Thanks to everyone who came out, and especially those who were dressed to the nines. Some of y'all were looking real sharp - who would have thought climbers could clean up so good?
Bouldering League starts next week! Just what is Bouldering League and why should you care?! Bouldering League is our way of bringing climbers of all different abilities together to compete against each other, push themselves, and hang out with folks they might not have otherwise met! It's easy to get in a rut while climbing - you come in on the same days, hang out with the same people, and only get on problems that are within your comfort zone. Well Bouldering League will snap you out of that funk, with the added promise of being really friggin' fun.
So Footloose was incredible ... y'all made it the best campus comp / 80s party EVER. Huge shout Texas Ale Project for throwing a bunch of beer our way! If you had a pale ale or a stout that night and really dug it, it's thanks to those guys! Another shout-out to Brass Tacks Barbershop for coming out and giving some great haircuts. Does anyone know if anyone ended up with a mullet?!! Anyways, results are here!
