Looking for a place to compete with your friends? Looking for a place to compete AGAINST your friends? Looking for a place to make new friends? LOOK NO FURTHER - Summit Bouldering League is ALL THESE THINGS and MORE aka the BEST TIME EVER. WHAT HAS BECOME OF MY CAPS LOCK?!
Already sold? SIGN UP HERE. Either sign up solo, or with a team! Make sure you put your team name down, and your team must all sign up at the same gym!
Anyways, here are some more details on the League, so you know what you're getting into before you sign up, cuz you're gonna sign up because it's so much fun, and just $15 a person this year! SUCH VALUE. And because of our handicap scoring system, all ability levels are welcome, and there are NO disadvantages for not being a Vbillion climber. We level the playing field, so V2 climbers are climbing against V10 climbers and have a chance to win!
So the League will meet once a week from 6 to 9 pm — Carrollton on Mondays, Denton on Tuesdays, and Dallas on Thursdays. Sorry Grapevine - you don't have enough bouldering for us to have ya in the Bouldering League, BUTTTTT maybe a Rope League is in store for the future? Sounds like something y'all could be down for?
Anyways, so after 4 consecutive weeks of League meets, we'll have a week off, then the following Friday we will host our Bouldering League Finals - where the top team from each gym will go head to head ... to head to see WHO IS THE BEST LEAGUE TEAM OF THEM ALL! They'll win bragging rights, they'll win a sweet and most likely handmade trophy, and they'll win the right to call themselves LEAGUE CHAMPIONS. You know the Stanley Cup? Yeah, this is like that but a BIGGER DEAL. Don't know the Stanley Cup? READ A BOOK.
We have space for 8 League teams at each gym. The teams will consist of at least 4, but at most 5 members. There will be one designated team captain whose job it is to rally their troops and get them stoked to crush. Pick your team now and sign up with them — or, we welcome people to sign up on their own, and we can put everyone that signs up solo together as a team. It's a great way to find a crew to climb with! And we welcome ALL ability levels. Seriously. Because of our handicap system, the playing field is totally leveled. Tell us the hardest grade you can climb in a an average climbing session, and we're gonna hold you to that. Try to climb as close to that grade as possible on League meets!
So during a League meet, everyone will have the 3 hours to climb their top 4 hardest problems while open projecting in the gym. BUT - there will be a new wall set the day of each League meet, and that is totally off-limits to League members until they're ready to get their try-hard on. we will choose our favorite problems in each grade from the new set, and y'all will have 5 tries to send as hard as you can on those new problems, which we will call the "Challenge Problems." A League official will be monitoring the new wall, and mark your attempts. What if you send the Challenge Problem at your handicap in just three attempts? No problem - you have two more attempts on something harder, so push yourself! You'll get bonus points for everything sent above your handicap. Having an off week and spent three attempts on the problem at your handicap and just not feeling it - try the grade just below. You will have a point deficit, but hey, it's better than nothing!
Everyone's score at the end of each meet will be a combination of their four hardest sends and their hardest sent Challenge Problem. The Challenge Problem will be weighted as 60% of your final score, so performance under pressure is key! We will compile the top four performing members of the team's scores (if you are a team of five, your worst-performing team member for that week will have their score dropped off) as the team's total score, and we will announce each week's winners after the meet. At the end of four weeks, the team at the top at each gym will go to the Finals on April 28th, at the home gym of the best-performing team.
We added a SECRET WEAPON to League, for anyone that wants to make up for an off-week. Each team will have one Bonus Problem, that they can utilize during any week of Bouldering League, but it can only be used ONCE. If one of your team members is feeling especially on that day, they can climb an additional Challenge Problem for full points - either another new problem at their handicap, or if they're feeling confident, a grade above. They will have five tries on this problem - if they send it it's a huge bonus to their team, and can make up for a poor performance during a previous week.
And at the end of the day, remember folks that this is totally for fun! We want to encourage competitiveness, but also camaraderie!
