Our Spring Open Bouldering Competition is next Saturday, and we are getting SO. DANG. PSYCHED. Last year was our first-ever Spring Open, and our first competition to feature a block party in the middle of it. This year we're making it bigger and better, and wanted to share with y'all some of the great activities we have planned, so y'all come out and join us! PLUS- it's LUAU-themed, so get ready for leis, tacky shirts, drink umbrellas, and oddly-placed coconuts!
The Spring Open will be a bouldering competition like our SBS series — but with a twist. Instead of having the comp on a Friday, we do the Spring Open on a Saturday, so we can make it an all-day super fun ain't nobody got work tomorrow affair. And it's at Summit Carrollton, AKA we'll have grass (MORE ROOM FOR ACTIVITIES) and the awesome patio to hang out on when climbing is over.
Here's how it goes: Check-in starts at 2 pm on April 22nd, when all the competitors will come and pick up their scorecards and competitor shirts with Bryan Prater in a Hula skirt on them (YOU MUST SIGN UP BY 10 PM ON SUNDAY, APRIL 16TH IF YOU WANT A FREE COMPETITOR SHIRT!) Climbing starts at 3 pm, and y'all will have those three hours to crush yourselves on our freshly set Carrollton walls.
Once 6 pm rolls around and climbing is finished ... welp ... that's when the REAL FUN BEGINS: we'll have food trucks, FREE BEER, live shirt printing by Pan Ector, a PIE-EATING CONTEST, games, live music, contests and a FRIGGIN DUNK TANK all in the parking lot to keep y'all entertained between 6 and 8 pm, when the finals begin.
Another thing that's unique about the Spring Open: it's not just the top 5 from the Open category that we're taking to Finals. Oh no - we also take the top 5 from men's and women's Advanced too! NOW'S YOUR CHANCE TO MAKE FINALS! And, since we're giving the routesetters so long to reset for the Finals, we are setting THREE problems each per gender and difficulty category, so you can watch SO MUCH MORE climbing by the climbers you know and love!
So what are you waiting for? Come compete! It's just $25 (for climbing, all these activities, free beer, and a free competitor t-shirt if you sign up before Sunday 04/16), or if you're looking to just chill, spectating is FREE! Totally free! So I hope to see y'all there!
If you're not totally convinced, here is a photo album from Finals last year! (Photos courtesy of Mario Stanley and Patrick Kratz!)
